As summer draws to a close, we'd like to present our contribution to the summer mixtape series from SGC NYC. It's a collection of some of our most-played tracks of the season, and some of all time.

international tapes

International Tapes is a new IDLM discovery that we're desperate to share. True to its name, the site features several compilations of music themed around distant times and locales. However, the content reaches further, with regular updates that review brand new music. Additionally, their mixtape series features a varied assortment of genres all calling for attention. Our current favorite is Darklands' goth mix. Overall, the site offers something well outside the familiar norm of online music media. See for yourself here.

No matter how often designers, stylists, and photographers draw on classic punk themes in producing their work, there's always a new way to consider and incorporate the aesthetic. Consider some of our favorite shots as we move into fall, and think about your potential spin.

be there: falling into the sun

For those who prefer their Friday nights a bit holistic, Claire Evans and the Body Actualized Center have got you covered this weekend. The YACHT frontwoman is hosting an "aesthetic and corporeal experience" tomorrow that features experimental film to complement a series of participatory activites like yoga, meditation, and reiki healing. DJ sets and live performances are also promised, as is a summer's end bonfire. Find more about the event and the venue here.

Here's an awesome tribute video to Bill Murray by Niege Borges. Check out the looks and sounds that have emerged from the prolific actor throughout his decades-spanning career, and then buy the poster here!

influence: linda for interview russia

September's Interview Russia brings with it a menswear-inspired story defined entirely by the classic charm of Linda Evangelista. Aggressively chopped and tousled hair complements a round of garments from Calvin Klein, Armani, and Thom Browne that are styled to massive proportion by Patti Wilson. Lensed by Daniele and Iango, the minimal photography gains dimensionality with touches of red layered throughout.

the lower east side's 1:1 gallery continues an impressive roster of events with softrock, by actually huizenga and socrates mitsios. the video-themed exhibition features the dynamic, sexualized, and violently glamourous aesthetic that characterizes the collaborators alongside a curated soundtrack. saturday evening marks a highlight in the project, with a special performance featuring miss huizenga alongside brooklyn darlings house of ladosha and cody critcheloe. look here for more details.

Dazed & Confused's September issue brings us a hodgepodge of our favorite editorial elements. In the brief series, Pierre Debusschere brings model Guerrino Santulliana into a kind of dimensional purgatory that recalls Richard Haines as well as A-ha. Errant brushstrokes and lounge prep stylings bring to life the new collaboration between Christophe Lemaire and Bean Pole. Don't try this at home.

be there: afro-punk festival 2012

The eighth annual Afro-Punk Festival kicks off this weekend in Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park. The free event runs through Saturday and Sunday, featuring movement-centered bands, skate competitions, artists, and vendors. Live acts include performers like Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu, TV on the Radio, Venus X, Ninjasonik, Toro y Moi, and Spank Rock. austra at riverrocks

tonight marks the first night for pier 54's riverrocks series. first to take the stage for this free show is austra, a dark-tinged electronic act hailing from canada. with a gathering momentum for their principled approach to music, they're certainly an act worth checking out, whether at the waterfront or at bowery ballroom with cold cave on august 6. full details for riverrocks here.

spring/summer '12 menswear preview

shows, presentations, and market for next season's menswear is now in full force, and a number of idlm brands are now premiering the styles that will carry us into spring. now available for viewing are collection videos from odyn vovk and comune, and both demonstrate very different methods of showcasing their offerings. check out these short films for a sneak peek at what we'll be carrying next year.

warm up + any ever

this year's warm up series at moma ps1 begins this saturday. the outdoor courtyard events are a summer staple, featuring experimental live music, performance, and dj sets. best of all, admission to the event includes access to all current exhibitions, so be sure to check out ryan trecartin's any ever, now on view inside the museum. full details here.

big screen

every summer, it seems there's no lack of free outdoor movie events to attend. add big screen plaza's twice-weekly screenings to the list if you're not yet aware. this saturday, beetlejuice will be showing at the space on 6th and 29th, with a host of woody allen and james bond movies to follow later in the month. full details here.

yr friday night

brooklyn fireproof's second multidisciplinary 'yr friday night' event is scheduled for this weekend, with art, photo, video, performance, literature, and music slated. check out the flyer for full details, including participating artists.

moon safari

ashley smith appears in a stunning new chad pitman story for muse 26. the model explores a desolate landscape in a mix of prada, dior, chloe, jil sander, alexander wang, and philip lim.

summer of sam

blackbook's newest issue features a summery editorial of boys at leisure in a mix of preppy and urban styles. lensed by dean isidro, the story features antonio branco's styling in several classic seasonal spots. credits go to robert geller, prada, and miu miu, among others.

hess is more

tomorrow night at the ace hotel, sup magazine and henrik vibskov are coming together to celebrate a new track from multi-instrumentalist mikkel hess. leading up to a live performance is a roster of djs and an "exorcism" at midnight. make sure to rsvp.

rooftop films

this summer's rooftop films series starts tonight, with a selection of short films organized under the title "this is what we mean by short films." it promises to be an intriguing start to the season-long string of diverse releases. run by a non-profit organization, the experience is meant to unite diverse communities while promoting independent filmmaking. info for the full series here.

carola

the new issue of deluxx digital features a fresh story lensed by diego indraccolo. the somber piece features simple backdrops and plays with blurring in a few images. stylist kay korsh borrows heavily from ktz and japanese designers to fuse heavy, accented dresses with crowns for a delicate effect.
