the merchant's house museum is currently hosting a novel exhibition of postmortem photography, a practice widespread in the 19th century that now serves as a way of reinterpreting contemporary attitudes toward death. through november 29, visitors can view these artifacts and other funerary ephemera from the burns archive, and even stage their own death portraits in a reproduction coffin.
