INFLUENCE: NYFW's rules to LIVE and DIE by...

Fashion Week has officially taken over New York: there’s a constant procession of leggy girls ambling around town, street-stylers putting on their loudest outfits, photographers everywhere, and mental checklists of to-buy lists being created in minds everywhere. So far, this season has built on old favorites repeatedly; black, leather, and sheer details reappeared on almost every runway. If you don’t have time to monitor all the shows and wait for inspiration, you’re in luck: here's our trend watch:

the LEATHER
Leather was everywhere, and luckily several designers found a way to breathe life into the ubiquitous material. There were lots of knee-length skirts, baggy leather pants and moto jackets, as well as an army of leather-infused coats. Rachel Comey (above left) showed a simple black coat with leather panels, and Alexander Wang (middle) created a ferocious ribbed toggle jacket. The always tasteful Helmut Lang showed a leather bodice with gauzy sleeves. Since the weather is being a bit too erratic to justify committing to another coat purchase, why not try our Erik Hart Vegan Leather and Ponte Stapless Dress? It’s chic and instantly brings the sexy.

the GLOVES
Leather gloves were on every model's hands this season, from the fingerless to the opera-leng. Warm up your fingers with Obesity & Speed's Leather Fingerless Gloves with Chains, or go for a slight deviation with our Velvet Gloves with Mesh Inserts. Shown above from left Yigal Azrouel, Jason Wu, and Rag and Bone.

the SHEER
One more recycled constant on the runways was the presence of sheer details in the form of lace and mesh. Yigal Azrouel went completely sheer (right) while Rebecca Taylor (above center) kept her details subtle, and Prabal Gurung and Peter Som both showed some jaw-dropping sheer eveningwear (above left). We’ve got plenty of options for you to go sheer: There's our structural and ultra sexy Mesh and Ponte Zip Back Dress dress, or the Stolen Girlfriends Club’s Cutout Sweater with Silk Panel, which incorporates the shade of blue seen on many a runway this year. To channel the drama shown at Yigal Azrouel, can try out Stolen Girlfriends Club’s Night Flare Pantsin Garden Print. Or you can go the mesh/lace route with a Unif Loose String Sweater.
