WU TSANG, Full Body Quotation: NEW MUSEUM, November 19th 7pm
Filmmaker and performer Wu Tsang brings together an ensemble cast to create an active installation for this year's Performa, the piece "channel(s) a chorus of voices sampled from the known (and unknown) canon of transgender cinema. Voices and bodies blend together into a hydra-headed, polyglotinous beast, staring back at onlookers across the boundaries of time and space with fifteen unblinking pairs of eyes—the apotheosis of a glamorous yet terrifying new mythical reality". A bold interpretation of his experience in drag culture coupled with the development of his artistic persona, FBQ is sure to be remarkable. Look out for Wu's upcoming film WILDNESS, a documentary about a defining time in LA club culture.

AMY GRANAT, SISSEL KARDEL, MILAN KNIZÁK, GEORGE MACIUNAS, JONAS MEKAS, LISA OPPENHEIM, JEFFREY PERKINS AND MICHAEL DAVID QUATTLEBAUM JR., The Ginger Island Project: Emily Harvey Foundation, November 12th 5pm
The Ginger Island Project,a group show based on the horrifically failed plans of fluxus artist George Maciunus, is a metaphor for fallen dreams. The work references the artist's attempt to create his own artistic community, and the destruction that resulted. "The Ginger Island Project include an exhibition at the Emily Harvey Foundation of work by a group of artists directly or indirectly relating to the Ginger Island trip including Amy Granat, Sissel Kardel, Milan Knizák, George Maciunas, Jonas Mekas, Lisa Oppenheim and Michael David Quattlebaum Jr., a film installation at the Storefront for Art and Architecture, and a sound project by Marina Rosenfeld at a pop-up venue in SoHo/Chinatown. In the project Ginger Island becomes a metaphor for utopias, dreams, aspirations and creativity".
